Most break-ins are 3-4 minutes - smash and grab. Cops take a minimum of 5 minutes to respond. I had a cop tell me to get a camera system. The alarm will minimize the time the crook has onsite, especially with friendly neighbors. A camera system might help catch the crook.

The problem I've seen with a lot of systems is that the night vision is so poor, that one can look into the camera, and his own mother couldn't recognize him.
That comes with the cheap systems.

Yep, about 32 feet for consumer grade night vision is all you can expect. I've got an Amcrest system and have been happy with it .

We had monitored alarm for years and the one time the alarm went off and my wife and I were both at work, I told the alarm company to notify the police. Then I drove home from work (about 10 minute drive), went in and checked the house from top to bottom. After checking everything out I was out on the porch wondering if the police would show up and about the time I gave up on them I see a Tulsa police car moseying down the street. There was probably a thirty minute period from when the police were notified and when they showed up. I decided then that a monitored service in Tulsa is a total waste of money. The Tulsa PD apparently does not put a lot of urgency in responding to alarms in a timely manner. Two pro thieves could have wiped me out in 30 minutes. Still have the alarm and still use it but we don't waste the money on monitoring.
