We used to cruise Grand Ave in Ponca between the A&W on 14th st. and Sparky's burgers on Oak St.
lines of vehicles both directions crawling along.
Remember opening the dumps to let the pipes talk, loping the cam shaft, eyeballing the chicks and doing oil checks at stop lights. (get out, pop the hood, take the dipstick out, hand it to the driver and then drive off leaving them with the hood open)
Led zepplin was still together, Jimi and Janice were still alive filling the car with music from the 8 track and AM radios.
Ponca still celebrates cruising grand in June every year on a Friday night when they shut down Grand Ave in the downtown area for those with classic cars and classic motorcycles.
Thousands line the streets to watch. Some really cool vehicles show up with one shooting flames from the exhaust pipes, etc. This is followed the next day with a classic car show at Lake Ponca.
Same weekend as the herb festival, so it's a full weekend of activities.

Ooh back in 03-04 rolling in my 85 Monte Carlo. I was awesome because I had 40 series flowmasters. And don't forget the chrome valve covers. Man I didn't understand what fast was back then. But I sure had some good times on memorial! Many tickets too! It's like I worked all week for a tank of gas and ticket money.

While cruising in the 80's wasn't like cruising in 50's and 60's..........kids now for the most part don't. We were just discussing this other day as a matter of fact. Seems like we used to run on MVA or EMS calls out in the country frequently with kids driving too fast, alcohol, etc, but seems like about the time the price of gas skyrocketed, that almost came to a stop. It's also amazing how many 16yo don't want to get a drivers license until their older, or at all. Different times for sure.

I used to cruise Edmond all through my high school years. During my senior year, Edmond started pulling kids over if they saw you more than twice on the cruise and writing tickets. Other cities started doing it and the cruise started to die. Moore used to be huge and they did the same thing. I wish they would still do it and cruise. It was a blast.

Yep, the cops shut it down in Yukon as well. They would pull you over for no reason and harass you.

Cops shut them down alot of time which makes no dang sense to me. The kids are all in the same area, not causing any harm, usually patronizing the businesses at which they cruise/park...but the cops run them off.
Then wonder why kids get into mischief and street racing. I would think the cops would encourage it but what do I know.
