So, what's the vicious circle and irony that Conservatives don't understand? There are a lot of things that school districts, school administrators and teachers do to bring the negativity from the community upon themselves. Much of it self induced.

The vicious circle is the fact that if they had received a decent education somewhere along the line, they would respect or appreciate it's merits. They didn't, and here we are..... again.

I'm not sure that the teaching community brings so much negativity on themselves as much as a community as a whole expect the system to raise their kids. Don't know how much "boots on the ground" insight you have from Kalifornia, but I don't think it can be argued that the parents to today are generally less involved and especially take less responsibility for a child's upbringing. "Must be those damn liberal teachers" is what I hear on good ol OSA.

So teachers are douche bags? For wanting better funding? For wanting to be able to educate your kids better? For wanting your kids to have a good basis to succeed in life after they graduate?

Man.... tough crowd!

And when your kid doesn’t get into the college of their choice, or get the job they want because they lack the appropriate level of education will we still be douche bags?
I don't want to throw more money away. The Daily Oklahoman had an article that 40% of Oklahoma kids have to have remedial classes before they can start college classes. Public schools are a failure, and paying teachers more isn't going to make a difference, giving schools more money won't make difference. Oklahoma parents need to STEP UP and make sure your kids are getting an education. Would you buy a car that has a 40% failure rate? Education doesn't guarantee anything. I know a guy who can't read 5th grade level and he has worked all his life, and he has done pretty good.

And here we are......

So what do you suggest? Cutting pay or defunding? Because status quo isn't working.

What you’re not taking into account is that additional funding allows more hands and visual instruction. Kids don’t learn from lecture and note taking. All they do in this case is memorize, pass the test, and then data for the next set of information. They learn by manipulation, use of their hands, eyes and ears. Additional funding to classrooms and teachers would provide for this. Then and only then does learning become more authentic and applicable to the outside world.

Again..... someone commenting who doesn’t understand the true nature of the business.

hear that? its the sound of the people already deciding to elect dems to state seats
This is what the walkout was about. It turned into nothing more than a push for democrats. Yukon really backed the teachers at first, but it changed after they figured out what was going on. Like I have said before, there are good teachers who need a raise. There is also teachers that should have been fired years ago, but they know that they have a free ride for life. We were excited about getting a tax cut from Trump, but now we raised taxes on everything to fund the next round of democrats.
I will never vote for a democrat.

I take that back. Something tells me that I will probably vote democrat after I am dead.

After School is out the 40,000 Teachers that say it is for the Kids. Need to Picket the Capitol and Department of Education with the following agenda
1) No Social Promotion
2) English is the only language used for Teaching
3) Require School Administrators to have a Business Degree
4) Consolidate 500 (Plus) school superintendents to one per county (77)
5) Schools with enrollment of over 10,000 can have a Superintendent

It was never a push for democrats, they're just smart enough to figure out that people want education for their kids and jumped in the mix. No irony there at all.

This is basically how Obama got elected twice. Republicans sitting on issues and relying upon straight line voting while the house burns.

With regards to #4. While I agree, it seems the problem is that many small communities tie their identity through their school. The legislators would never go for it, as the local community identity will be seen as more important than the education system as a whole. Then there's the whole issues of bussing logistics in rural areas. Not sure how the tackle it in larger states, but it needs to be referenced.

I do know the TRUE NATURE of the business, its called government and union run! I was a student in public school and know the waste of time, most kids are bored with your education system. You teachers don't give kids enough credit. And yes, schools are mostly big child care facilities, or day care centers. When I went to school I didn't go to kindergarten, now they have kindergarten and pre kindergarten, kids are institutionalized. Shut all the schools down, give each kids parent equal amount of tax money, and let the parents find a school. Of course you public school teachers wouldn't go for that because then you would have to actually compete for your work. This would also make the parents responsible. Ok, I will let it go, some things will just go on.
