I had Robinson Air swing by for an estimate. They offered a complete unit mid-range unit (14 sear) for a little over $10k. Selling point is it was a lifetime warranteed Amana unit. Which I guess is only warrateed until r410a goes the way of r22, but the warrantee is from Amana and still valid if I buy the same series 18 sear unit whole myself for $2500 and pay labor to install. Called a small local company with a similar positive reputation and they offered the same unit and installation for less tham half. I like the owner at Robinson, he's good people, but I'm not paying that price.

The internet is your friend. Definitely shop around.

Agree 100% about shopping around. The unit I have now is a 14 seer and it's an off brand (Ameristar) but made by Ingersol Rand who also makes Trane. But a 2 ton unit is about 1600 with both the indoor and outdoor sections with the electric heat coils. https://www.nationalairwarehouse.com/2-ton-ameristar-14-seer-r410a-air-conditioner-split-system.html

If all you need is a compressor changed out you are looking at around 1k for a 2 ton unit like that. https://www.nationalairwarehouse.co...-14-seer-r410a-air-conditioner-condenser.html It comes pre charged for like a 30 foot lineset or something like that so honestly pretty easy to install if you have a vacuum pump and the ability to solder the ends. I watched the guys do ten or twelve of them in one day when I got around to going outside.

And the units are warrantied for 5 years unless you "register" and then it's 10.

Sucker is a lot quieter than anything else I have come across and it's an off brand but it's the same stuff as the other ones, just comes with a different tag on the front. Plus you could easily upgrade to a heat pump.... https://www.nationalairwarehouse.com/wholesale-heat-pumps/condensers/l/brand:ameristar.html

Advanced Air came out and said I need a new compressor so I said stick an American Standard in there. They did and in a few days we had a loud squealing coming from the condenser so I called them back and they said, the A Coil is not sized to the condenser. So said you should have determined that when you put the condenser in and they said "yeah." So it ended up with a
double service/installation charge vs one. And when I called them for a service visit, they said, your furnace is starting to leadk and we could shut it down but we'll not do that but you're going to be needing a new one soon. So why didnt you replace then entire system when you installed the condenser? Well, we normally do was their answer.
Then later the pilot wouldn't light and I called Kyles AC Service in Choctaw and he replaced the defective part and I told him that I was told the furnace is going out and Kyle said, it is not, they were pulling a deal on you.
So there you have it, I am not going to call Advance Air again, they had their chance and they should be called, Advance Err.

To add another nail in the ACS coffin https://www.bbb.org/oklahomacity/bu...c-in-moore-ok-10002021/reviews-and-complaints
https://www.yelp.com/biz/air-comfort-solutions-moore-2

Seems maybe they are ok for plumbing but suck at HVAC work... Either way they charge more than everyone else. But there are a ton of them around so it's always good to look up the reviews and go from there. And if they screw up or do go either way POST REVIEWS as well, especially on the BBB site.

Personally for a HVAC compressor unit I would just order and replace it myself, if you can sweat solder a copper line and replace an electrical outlet you have everything but the vacuum pump and gauges.

My son called ACS yesterday and they wanted $11000 to replace heat/air units. Later changed estimate to $14000. He is going to have a relative that does heat/air on the side give an estimate. Bet it's half of that...

Dang, it sounds like we have our own politicians in the A/C business. I took a course once in heating and A/c and the instructor said that they looked forward to spring because they have a lot of compressors to replace because people turn the heater off of the compressors in the winter time to save money and forget that the heaters have to be on around 48-72 hours to force the freon back in the lines otherwise the compressor will lock up and burn out. Also, the cost of parts-they buy it and increase the cost by 75%. Another story he told me was a widow on Social Security called him to come repair her nonworking refrigerator, He cane out found a leak and fixed that and replaced the freon and when he gave her the bill she said she didn't have any money and that she was on a fixed income and could he come back on the 1st of the month? He came back and again was told to come back on the 1st of the next month and when he returned she said she didn't have the money so he reaches in his toolbox and pulls out a sharp object and walks past her and punches the freon line in her refrigerator. Class act, he could have said, "Lady, I know you're having a hard time and don't have the money-consider the work I did as a gift. But he didn't.
