Good point, though I'm not sure I agree with "most animals" ... I'd guess most animals just don't have access to it past weaning.Once most animals progress beyond an infant stage they are unable to process the lactose. Basically once off the teat there is no going back. Humans have adjusted to a regular diet for the most part but there are still some who are unable to process the lactose when they become adults.

No kidding.....I have reoccuring nightmares that Dolly Parton is my momma and she is trying to wean me off the teat. Wake up in a cold sweat every time!I prefer to stay on the teat but always get told "NO!"
That may apply in many cases, but I can personally attest that a full-grown bull (of the cow critter type) can get down on the knees of his front legs so that he can nurse off of his mama.
Sorry, no photographic evidence of such a feat. Didn't have a camera with me and cell phones were still about 10 or 15 years down the road.
