When I sent the seller a inquiry off the AL site I told him that I was interested in the gun but that 'I Do Not Text' (which I don't) so I told him to give me his number and that I'd call him, he replied back but still ask me to text him at the number he provided that had a area code of 740 which I believe is Ohio.

I emailed him at his Gmail address and I again stated that I do not text and I ask if he was in Ohio because that is where 740 shows to be.......that was over four hours ago and I've yet to hear back from him.

This is starting to smell pretty fishy to me.

If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, odds are...it's probably a duck. It's the same thing now with some people here who only use OSA to sell their stuff. Too shady for my tastes. They are not really part of the community. I am pretty careful, I only buy, trade or sell to known OSA members with a substantial history. Example, I've never met you in person, but I am at least aware of your OSA history, I sort of know who you are and stuff... and would feel fine doing a deal with you. Armslist? Shady guys on OSA with limited post count and then only to sell? Not so much. Of course, you do as you see fit but I would darn sure follow the sound advice already given about doing it at a public meeting place and having a buddy along. CCW is a given, I would hope.

I've bought several on AL, never had any issues, and I'm usually the one doing some driving due to my location...or I try to coincide a meet with an already planned trip to OKC or wherever...have also bought/sold a few on OSA, never an issue here either...some of the meets have been a good conversation, some have been a "quickie", but never felt unsafe or scammed

I have bought many guns off AL and never had any trouble. I never send the money and do a transfer. I do cash and carry face to face only. I'm usually alone and meet at a public business in the daylight. I have a .380 in my pocket and a .45 in the car. Most time on there if the price is crazy low it is a con wanting the money sent and AL will send you a scam warning. I've done about five buys at the Sand Springs Walmart and maybe five at the Conoco at the Stillwater exit on I-35.

Calling police they will NOT tell you if the gun is stolen.. you must take the gun to them.
That is what i was told.
I get persons name and signature and date of sale price of item and item serial number.
Check Id for correct name when buying if they will let you.
Keep the e mails from the purchase. and keep the bill of sale. I would also get tag number of the vehicle if you meet up somewhere..That is all you got to go on you know.

It is not illegal to own a stolen gun if you assumed it was not stolen in the first place but if you are caught with a stolen gun you just need to have proof of where you got it.
You will have the stolen gun taken from you by the authorities and they will then go look for the guy you got it from if you have proof of a legal purchase. You will be out your money and gun though.

That is what i was told by the Law enforcement person I talked with.

Since he is close by I would jump on it, but before you plop the cash down, call the s/n into OKC police and see if it was listed as stolen. Then do a thorough check and see if it has any markings from being fired. Nothing ventured, nothing gained but also buyer beware.

They cannot do this. The cop doing it would get in trouble. I have a friend that works for Pawhuska PD and has access to NCIC but not gonna get her in trouble.

I have done quite a few deals on armslist, I dont usually have much trouble but occasionally you get a shady one or an old cranky man that wants to disassemble the gun you are selling and then lose a piece of it.
