This seems to be very true. I was the first to move in on my block. Used to know almost everyone --- we even had seasonal block parties. I think that I'm the last of the originals and I know almost no one. Most won't even look up to wave or even just acknowledge you. It kinda feels weird to be alone in the midst of so many people.

The theory is, it's a lack of front porches. People live outdoors in the backyard now. We spend most of our time engaging people, the last thing we want to do is engage the people next door. Be the neighbor, make cookies, ring a doorbell and introduce yourself. Also, don't talk politics or religion. That stuff belongs in your underwear drawer.

Rhema Bible College in Tulsa has over 2 million lights. You can ride a carriage walk or drive through. They start in October putting them up and light them off after Thanksgiving.
Totally impressive.
They covered them turning on the lights on the channel 6 news. I thought they said they started working on getting the lights set up in July or August, but that was a few days ago, so I could be mistaken.

FWIW, I'm seeing lots of lights in the Tulsa area.

Paragon Pipe has a big display on Highway 117 between Glenpool and Sapulpa. Probably covers about 1/3 of a mile, along the south side of the Highway. They turn them on from Thanksgiving until New Year's.

It’s true, when one gets older they’re more vulnerable to falling and to put decorations up, ya gotta get up. And old folks hurt enough already without more pain that they don’t need. Recently a guy with a family fell off his roof on his driveway and he died as a result. He had experience in putting up lights for a job and he fell. Be careful up there younger folks!

Here, but occasionally There.
does Ski Island still do it up?
I used to but I'm to shaky on the ladder these days

I don't think Ski Island still does that. Something I heard or read to the effect that they were so crowded in the neighborhood that emergency vehicles couldn't get in if they had to.

As for us, when I was young, all of our Christmas decorating was a tree inside with some Christmas knic-knaks around the house. Outside, we might have had a wreath. The tree would be in a window where it could be seen from outside. Otherwise, we didn't have the money and Dad didn't have the time to put up lights. I(At times, Dad was working three jobs, although the farming was only seasonal.) Besides, I don't think our house even had outside electrical sockets.

Where did that happen? Last I heard, the one I know was expected to live.

I agree with the op..RickN...lights,hot chocolate,hay rides...

But...

Now that I'm an urban cowboy I am thankful my addition/neighborhood doesn't go buck-wild crazy with the Christmas decorations. I do remember Ski Island back in the early 1980's!!! I don't want traffic in my addition and i want to be able to get in and out of my driveway/house when i want.

Sorry if I seem a "Hum-Bug"...

I've driven by that display a few times, and it is impressive. There's also a big one on the west side of the Okmulgee Beeline down around 201st.

If you're in the Norman area, the Downs Family family puts on a huge animated Christmas lights display (complete with an FM transmitter so you can hear the music) on East 72nd, about a quarter mile south of Highway 9. They start around Thanksgiving and run it every night (unless the weather is bad--you park in their front yard to watch it) 'til New Year's. They have a Web site (https://www.downsfamilychristmas.com/).
