I hope that every man 40 and older on this forum knows what his PSA Blood Level is and how it is trending. The test measures the amount of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in your blood. PSA is a protein produced by both cancerous and noncancerous tissue in the prostate, a small gland that sits below the bladder in men.
Total Number is not the complete picture. Also watching the velocity [ rate of change ] is very important. Another marker is the Prostate Density [Size] to PSA Ratio.
If your MD is not doing at least an Annual PSA Blood test ask them to do the test. Do not let them tell you the test is not necessary.
The PSA Test is not the end all - fix all for evaluating prostate condition but is one of several effective tools in the Tool Box. The Classic finger wave [also called digital exam] is another tool in the tool box.

MEN - KNOW YOUR PSA Number!
Happy New Year!

Yep. Simple matter. If you have an annual exam, as you should, just be sure your physician includes it in the blood work. If you donate blood, OBI can add the PSA test to your blood work for a nominal fee (or, at least they used to)!

It's $175 with our lab and most insurances only cover it once a year when you are 50 or older. So I'm told, anyways, I'm not an authority.

I agree with everything said above.

I had been watching mine since I was 45, but the quack doc I was seeing kept saying it was because I was riding the tractor, 4 wheeler, skid steer etc. and my PSA kept going up.

Long story short, I had/have prostate cancer. I had the Cryo surgery in May and my last biopsy in November showed I’m good now.

I’ve got a buddy who’s PSA showed no signs of cancer but the DRE found he did have prostate cancer.

Get it checked fellers, it’s one of the easiest cancers to get under control.

Doc keeps sayin my Prostate is "boggy". Peeing is a chore unless I really have to go and my peanut sized bladder tells me I gotta go, now.

I get the PSA on my 6 month wellness visit with the VA. So far so good and I do a lot of tractor/atv riding like Hunter996. How in the hell that can affect your PSA is beyond me.

I just took the knuckleheads word, he’s a doc and I’m thinking they’re always right.

My PSA hit 3.94 before I dumped him and started seeing a real doc at the Stephenson Cancer Center. Now, after surgery my level is .063 and I go back next month for another PSA.
