Most don't have them to begin with, they don't like to pay to poach and get caught. They'd rather just poach and get caught. There's not many "upstanding poachers" out there that buy a license and then go poach.
I like to watch the game warden shows when I am bored. It amazes me how many do have a license, some have taken classes, and still they poach.

While I do not like the idea of paying for them to sit in prison, most of these scumbags will not learn without some serious jail time. Maybe we need to go back to the old idea of making them earn their keep. Nothing wrong with a little hard labor and it really gets the point across to some of these bozos. Make them work, no more cable TV or internet except for online classes and e-mail with family. Decent food but no better than our poor have to eat.
This reminds me of a vacation I took many, many years ago to the island of St. Kitts in the West Indies. While going through the town square, we noticed all of the freshly painted rocks/buildings and no trash to speak of. There was a large pile of twigs/sticks/wood too. I asked our guy at the hotel and said it was all done by inmates. Plus, they had to cook their own meals on wood fired stoves. Don't recall what they were given in the way of food but it sure wasn't extravagant. Their sentences had no leniency either. One guy was convicted of hitting his wife. He got a 1 year sentence. Not 364 days, not 366 days. Nothing like time off for good behavior but they WOULD add on time if unruly. Inmate told the guy at the hotel he'd never get arrested again as it was unbearable. BINGO!!! That was all the rehabilitating that was required. Too bad as a society that's deemed cruel and unusual punishment. SMH.

Not that it would keep them from doing it again but if they get caught poaching they should never be allowed to hunt again, plus make them pay every penny of restitution. I’ve got no sympathy for those jack wads at all.

I’m not talking about a person trying to feed their family if they were just plain down and out on their luck. I’m talking about people like in the op, doing it just for the heck of it.

Well they found a few heads they suspect he did. ANd he probably did but may have some others helping him who knows. I Don't see any real super trophies in the bunch but quite a few really nice ones someone would have been glad to get.
Normally I would say it is just a deer but 9 by spotlight is a little excessive and It may be hard lesson time.

So he hunted them illegally and really does haven't a pot to piss in. What about making it illegal for him to hunt or trying to get payment when there is none is truly justice? You really can't make people like this stop. So he ends up dying of old age owing the state money, so what?

The state ought to garnish any wages he might have till its paid off.

No people like that won’t stop, but something needs to be done to them. Officials should have the right to inspect the poachers premises at any time.
