I am not arguing the AR is not an okay rifle. I am saying when I used an M-16 in the mid 70s it sucked and I learned to hate it. Plus I grew up on lever action rifles and single action pistols. I have updated myself enough to like some more modern firearms but I can not get past my dislike of the AR platform. Period end of story. I know some of you love the mouse gun and that is your right. I DO NOT.

I can deal with the AK with a wood stock except for the recoil, plus finding someone that has something I like and who is willing to trade for my Camp 9. I am just wanting ideas for a wood and steel carbine without heavy recoil because of health issues. I know I could take it to a large gun show and probably walk out with a Mini 14, but I would need to take lube with me because I know I will get screwed.
The M16 sucked when it first came out in the mid late 60s. But that was the governments fault. They changed things up and that gave it issues. The military/Army went and fecked things up.

When I was in the Navy we had the old M16s that were full auto with the triangle grips. I always thought they were ugly. But when the M16 got updated and they took the carry handles off them and started free-floating the barrels, that’s when I started taking an interest to them.

Before that I liked old military surplus and cheap comblock boom sticks. My tastes have evolved over the years when it comes to firearms.

Great, now who has one they want to trade for my Camp 9, with mags and ammo?
Just pointing it out that there is a wood option. Maybe it looks good to you now? Forget who it was that mentioned that we could pool up some parts and maybe help get you one built. I have a few parts I could donate.

If this goes that route we should start up a list

We were issued the M-16a1 and even when kept spotless, it was always jamming. I hated that thing and got permission to switch to a 12 ga pump.

HAHA! You're only 9 years older than me, correction, 10. I used an M16/M4 for 25 years, no issues. That includes when I had an M16A1, A2, and M4A1+variants. Mouse gun...hahaha.

Rick, you ever shoot a Garand? IMHO it has little recoil, 147 FMJ issued rounds are not hot at all. The op rod/cycling seems to make the recoil much less than one would expect.

what is a real nice camp 9 worth?
Most are running around $1000. for a nice blued model. The rare nickle plate in unfired condition is much higher. One went about 4 months ago for over $2100. I am being conservative and figuring mine is worth around $1200 with 6 assorted 10 to 13 rd mags. Plus I have 4, 30 rd mags I would trade for extra mags for a Mini 14, etc.

Sorry make that around $750 for a blued, used one.

looks like the royal tiger m1 carbines are around 1400 dollars. the fulton armory carbine is 2300 dollars. i don't know what the mini 14 is worth? there are other makers of M1 carbines that may be cheaper but quality is all over the place.

AKguy1985 has a nice Mini 14 but it has the plastic stock which I could replace as soon as the wife was not paying attention, but it only has one mag with it. Plus he is so far away. I would have to find someone going there and back willing to make the trade for me, then scrounge up enough to buy some mags and ammo.

One note for those with a Mini 14, I hear the new Pro Mags work well if you make sure the rounds are all the way back in the mag. They old run about $15 too. The old 303s if using a stripper clip had to have the rounds seated properly too.

Interesting thread.

edited post. I read earlier about trying to get an AR built. I have an OSA lower and LPK that I'd offer, but after reading the rest of the thread, I think it's pretty apparent that an AR isn't in the cards. If things change, I will probably still have those parts available.
