best ak47 for shtf

I heard stories from the Vietnam era with that sort of impression of the M16 platform, but i assumed that was an early vietnam war issue and that they resolved it later on by changing the powder and actually issuing cleaning kits to the troops, with training in their use.

IDK if that is related to your experiences or not, since you specified 70s.

I'm curious, what's your go to rifle for SHTF? Do you prefer an AK over a Mini-14/M1 carbine?

I would prefer an AK but after the docs nagged at me I settled on a Mini 14 in wimpy 5.56 to keep recoil as mild as possible. It will defend my home and if needed take a deer. I would love a wood stock but ended up trading for a GB model. Good enough for my needs as there will be no long hikes, etc while hooked to O2.

I know the worst I will face is a few looters and the Mini will take care of those.

The problem with the AK’s and most mini models are mounting scopes IMO.

Not that hard on most models. Soon as I can scrape up some money for it I am going to mount a low power scope on mine.

when SHTF you are gonna have to rely on what you have or can scrounge. AK-47s are indeed very long-lasting, but they are mechanical devices and eventually **** needs replaced.

If SHTF, and you need to use a rifle to the point of "eventually" needing parts, you're likely not going to live long enough to "eventually" need parts.

Any AK is good, but of the choices listed, I'd take the two Chinese first. And yes - I like the SKS too.

if you could pick a poly tech mac 90 stamped, milled Chinese norinco mac 90, M70 series Yugoslavia variant A, B AB, either wood, underfolder, et , or American Made ak47 7.62x39... which one would be best ranked 1 to 4 in the order you prefer.

Long as it is factory made it doesn’t really matter. No drunk century monkey gunsmith guns. Those chicoms, saigas or the yugos are on the same playing field. Whatever is cheapest is the way to go. I wouldn’t say one was better than the other. I’d probably say go with a Yugo just because they will be cheeper because they haven’t been banned yet.

I’ve no experience with a USA made AK but if it’s made to comblock standards it should be good to go.

One thing to consider is most newer AKs have scope rails on the side for optics. I don’t think the older chicoms have rails so that something else to consider.

Brand doesn't matter. Too many AK snobs. It's really the one that goes Bang every time and can reasonably hit what you aim at.

My thoughts are:
Get all the imported Ak's you can, then start collecting domestic Ak's.
Several reasons for this.
Supply and demand for future procurement.
Resale value.
And, dependability reliability.
Nothing wrong with USA made Ak's, just go with foreign ones first...

Yea Joe and cronies are almost reason enough to own an AR. Not quite but close.

As I posted in another thread, I would love to own an AK in 5.56 that uses AR mags and had a rear peep site. That would be the best rifle I could fire nowadays without pissing off my doctors.
