I found this article in an old SWAT January 2012 magazine there was a lot i really did not know or understand about how important it is the stay hydrated.
The two most items that kill people are Pneumonia and De-Hydration, i never gave it a lot of thought about the signs your getting into trouble, but being a lot older today i now am drinking a lot of water not waiting to feel thirsty.

Hope my fellow forum members like the Article if not just disregard it.

I underprepared one time for a dove hunt down by Snyder/Gotebo. It was extremely hot that day and I walked further into a burned out mesquite thicket than I realized. My grandfather happened to walk by while I was laid out and completely disoriented.

That was around 23-24 years ago and I still won't even walk to the neighbors house without at least a full 1L of water. It felt like being heavily intoxicated with a side of heat exhaustion. 0 stars, would not recommend.

You guys who are only drinking more water are missing part of the picture. Hydration has a chemical component which is why Gatorade and Pedialyte both have sugar AND salt.

If you are going to be in a situation where you are perspiring more, and hydration is important, go for a sports drink (even the sugar free ones are fine). You can even blend your own "sports drink powder" at home and make custom flavors.

I learned this the hard way when I did some outdoor labor in July one year and only drank gallons of ice water. By the end of the day it felt like my brain was swollen because I had lost too much salt. (I had skipped breakfast and lunch because it was a really busy day)

I eat 2 bananas on average a day and never lacking in the salt department.
Many times my black shirt is soaked when working outside and you can see the salt stains.

Only 1 time have I ever got cramped up out in the heat but it was just 1 arm that was working this
60cc 17+ lb 20" bar McCulloch chain saw while up in a big pine for almost 2 hours.

I think it was the saw.
I sure like my MS250 and the 18" bar when working up in a tree.

Roofing a house on a crew one July day when I was like 19-20 and felt like I was gonna pass out. Crew members helped me off the roof and into the shade, handed me a sports drink and ran the cool water hose across my head and neck. I felt better in a half hour and went home for the day. It was shortly after that I quit the crew to return to college.
