Lackland AFB Medina side. The Air Force called 'em "dining" halls or facilities. I don't recall a bad meal from an Air Force "chow" hall. Some of them (especially at Chanute AFB) were just outstanding.
Those of you that know.

How did they live so long? Some of them are 80s now and still living. My dad (born on date of 1937) has told me of his childhood when they was living high on the hog eating lard sandwiches. When I think I’ve got it rough I think about the stories he’s told me and it makes me realize I ain’t hit bottom yet.
You know, there's a joke with the punchline "finally a hot meal" that goes here...It took me 3 tries to get enough of that **** choked down (I puked it up twice) before they could run the test.
Oh, we had some good chow halls later, but Ft Monmouth NJ sucked. The Air Force called 'em "dining" halls or facilities. I don't recall a bad meal from an Air Force "chow" hall. Some of them (especially at Chanute AFB) were just outstanding.
I was a cook aboard the SSBN Michigan and I got to see some when I was issued out to the SSN Helna.Oh, we had some good chow halls later, but Ft Monmouth NJ sucked.
The mess hall we had on top of Changan Mountain in Korea could have been considered as fine dining. Of course, all it took was greasing some palms so our weekly ration runs To base camp got to get resupplied from the officers supply and not general rations that NCO ‘s ate from.
We got fresh eggs, fresh milk and real steaks vs the dehydrated steaks, powdered eggs and powdered milk.
Our side hustle was “procurement specialist’s”.
3000 some feet high, but on clear nights we could see the lights from an island off Japan. (Which in itself is a nation of islands)I was a cook aboard the SSBN Michigan and I got to see some when I was issued out to the SSN Helna.
Got to go around the world. Got to be sent to culinary school, made legit ice sculptures, and even Got to see the white house kitchen, but you got to see the silk roads?
Was it up high?
Sorry. It is just a place I never got to, I have always liked history.
You have a picture?3000 some feet high, but on clear nights we could see the lights from an island off Japan. (Which in itself is a nation of islands)
Sorry to hear about that. I grew up rough too.Growing up I have eaten Bar S baloney and been thankful for it. Have gone days on nothing but oatmeal because it was cheap. Spent hours sitting on the dock fishing with whatever insect I could catch because dad was out partying and there was no food at home.
Sorry to say never got to eat there. Just ate at 3701 BMTS. Well honestly, we weren't there to taste the food. But weirdly enough loved the yogurt they served. Lowry AFB best damn "chow hall" ever, especially for breakfast. Lowry was the school for Air Force cooks, so all instructors had 8+ years experience. Ramstein AB could have been better for a Headquarters base, Europe is pricey so we had limited variety. Got used to drinking skim milk there. Incirlik AB average and really busy. Then Hill AFB damn the salad bar there was better than Western Sizzlin salad bar. Plus they were getting a Sundae bar put in. Got out before that happened.Lackland AFB Medina side.
