Anybody know anything about the socom II, saw one for sale at a shop here and don't know much about except 7.62 and I kind of liked the rifle. Any opinion/ Info would be appreciated?

I thought you were talking about the old PlayStation 2 3rd person shooter and was gonna get all geek nostalgic...

LMAO!!! My gamer tag was George Bush.

As for the m1a socom 2, I recently handled one it had a vltor rail. It was sweet, but I don't know about dropping $2100 on it.

16" M1A I like it alot but I don't know if i'll ever own one. It is the same as the Socom 16 with the exception that it comes with the Vltor rail from the factory, I believe that is the only difference. If you don't care about the rail you might look into the Socom 16.

Socoms are loud, reliable, reasonably accurate, and fun, fun, fun! Great handling guns because of the short OAL, hard-hitting guns because of the caliber. If the price is anywhere near reasonable in this panic-induced buying frenzy, I'd buy it! They are great guns.

I like at least an 18" barrel on a .308, plus I'd want one that is more compatible with GI parts for when the commercial SAI parts need replacing, so that is not the particular model I would be looking for. I would prefer something other than a SAI rifle altogether actually. All the mil spec mfg's offer an 18" or 18.5" model. I'd go for one with the Criterion chrome lined barrel.

Also I wouldn't want that Vltor rail... It is too high to co-witness a red dot with the irons, and is pretty heavy too. I would greatly prefer an Ultimak if you want to do the forward mount optic thing.
