I feel the class does has some merit to it, but the safety part was very slim and they specifically said the class was not to show you how to use a firearm. I think all of the material they have chosen to teach for the sda needs to be revamped. Just telling people of title 21 isn't enough in my mind there should be a more in depth safety portion.

My point is the class has no business being a requirement to get a permit since they're generally not useful to anyone but complete novices who take the course on a whim and likely won't carry. Who is the class really catering to when it's nothing more than a PowerPoint read to you and hitting a point blank target is considered competent? The fact is most people simply don't need training to use a gun defensively. Real training is nice to refine skills, but in the end your mindset is most important and it's not something a mandated class is going to impart.

Yeah, same here. My class was pretty worthless. The instructor read notes at 100 mph, discouraged questions, rushed us through live firing, grabbed his cash and was out of there.

the requirement is the problem. hell, I'm sure there are people who'd rather spend the $125 or so it costs to get a permission slip on a better class instead.

They ought to. I moved here from Maryland. As I was not a business owner, or politically connected, I had no chance at all of ever getting "permission" from the state to exercise my rights. That and the permissive, revolving door justice system of the state, were two of the major reasons I moved out west. As soon as I was able, I took the class, and obtained my CCW permit.

I carry everywhere I can, because I can, and I know what it's like to NOT be able to.

I believe that Indiana has no training requirement. As far as I know it makes no different in the number of mistakes or errors committed.

As said, complete joke and waist of time. Last part of class was shooting, did not even have to hit the target. All you had to do was fire 50 rounds in a safe manner.
