or an old cranky man that wants to disassemble the gun you are selling and then lose a piece of it.

Lol I remember that. I still think he just can't figure out how to get it back together. There are only 4 pieces to the slide and none of them are small.

They cannot do this. The cop doing it would get in trouble. I have a friend that works for Pawhuska PD and has access to NCIC but not gonna get her in trouble.
.

How would that get her in trouble? A simple check to make sure its not listed as stolen is not revealing any private information. You're not asking for a background check. I'm not saying I disagree, just asking for information.

I think it's really sad there is no official and sure way to check if a serialized item has been reported stolen before buying it. But then, of course, the .gov's answer would be to outlaw all private sales without registration and background check, wouldn't it?

If they check a serial number it is recorded as to what the officer did do and they are told to only check serial number if it is in hand..and if stolen they must take it in.
That is what i was told.

I was pulled over in Marietta Ok during deer season I was hunting with a friend and he wanted to bring his Honda 4 wheeler.
Ok I think if I remove the middle seats in my E150 it will fit inside.
Yep it fit.
When we were leaving to go back to OKC we were pulled over by the local police.
They said when i turned the corner i slightly faded over the center line.. which IS BS.
What they wanted to do was check serial number on the 4 wheeler.

To their surprise it was not stolen in fact it was purchased by my friend from his Law enforcement relative.

The officers .. yes officers as there were 3 or 4 cars right on top of us almost instantly. they asked me if there were any guns in the vehicle.
I said Yes I have a savage .308 a mossberg 100 ATR 30-06 a Mossberg 100 ATR 243. A 1974 Model 94 30-30 and a german 357 Magnum with 6" barrel and lots of ammo.

They did not check or even care to look at a gun. It was all about that 4 wheeler.
They were quite rude and it was below freezing and my buddies coat was in the Van and they would not let him have it.
And would not let us put our hands in our pockets.. even though 5 officers were watching us For the 45 minutes it took them to find a serial number and call and check if it was stolen.

Only 1 officer apologized for detaining us and said there has been a lot of 4 wheelers stolen around there and one inside of a van looks suspicious.

Yea I did not cross any lines during a turn.

So why no serial number check on Guns???
Too much work?
I got 2 of them off Armslist.

Ditto to what others have said, you can check their registration date. I’m always more skeptical of those who recently joined. Never had a bad experience there however. The only sketchy deal I’ve ever had was one on here lmao

It is probably the agency's policy they have to have the item in question in hand or if a vehicle at least under observation because there are two agencies involved. The inquiring agency and the entering agency. If there was a hit, the entering agency would be notified also.

When/if I sell on AL, there is one guy I avoid at all costs, but there isn't a way to block him from seeing my ads. He was a potential buyer once and I got the worst vibe ever. I walked. No sale. He is local to Mustang, and most of his ads show a pistola sitting on his right thigh while driving. Haven't had any other memorably bad experiences. I meet ALers at our Tractor Supply during daylight. It's safe-ish, busy but not too busy, and a gun-friendly parking lot. I will never meet unarmed.

The only negative experience I’ve had was a no-show. Well once, I drove a 1/2 hour to meet for a sell. I had it posted very aggressively for $600 and I got the “I’ll take it” almost immediately. Younger guy. When I got there, he said “Looks great, I’ll give you $500.” I guess thinking that I had driven a bit and committed an hour to it, he might be able to negotiate. I responded that I was FIRM at $700 ;). I **** you not - he said - “Wait, when we agreed to meet you said the price was $600.” I said “Bingo” He paid up and we went our ways. I’ve actually bought and traded from him since. Good dude, just tried to out fox me, didn’t work.

They have to have the gun in their hands to run the serial through NCIC. I've read on here before, and it maybe have been from officer Michael Brown who was a moderator on here, but somebody said that they can't just randomly be running serial numbers of guns for friends.
