Correction times a comin"
And times a goin.

40 years from now the wide variations in the graph today will look like they did 40 years ago; Essentially a line the soaks up all the day to day changes and looks smooth.

I’m not an economist by any means, but what does all this actually mean for the common man?
I travel all over western Oklahoma and most of what I see are farm towns dying and blowing away. On the left coast the plebs are drowning in debt just to maintain something of an existence above the ever rising poverty line.
What’s good for the coastal elites doesn’t seem to do well for the yeoman farmer, as we approach a point where the ruling class controls nearly as much wealth as the rest of the population ($35 trillion top 1% vs $36 trillion for the rest iirc).
I’d be happier with Trump if he delivered on the rest of his promises: Immigration bans, concrete walls, ending birthright citizenship (and sending back everyone who didn’t have family here prior to Hart-Sellers would be freaking sweet!), and pulling our troops home from our wars for other states. I’m not trying to be obtuse but I just don’t see what’s so great about the economy right now except that it’s not as bad as under Obama?

Compare the unemployment under Obama with unemployment under Trump. From what I hear, the numbers of unemployed under Trump are at 50 year lows. While it takes longer for U-6 unemployment (source of labor participation rate) to get "back to normal," the number of unemployed under Obama (again, U-6) kept getting lower and lower. In other words, there were a lot more unemployed under him than a whole lot of other presidents.

Unemployment Article at Wikipedia

This from that Wikipedia article:

"The Bureau of Labor Statistics also calculates six alternate measures of unemployment, U1 through U6, that measure different aspects of unemployment:

  • U1: Percentage of labor force unemployed 15 weeks or longer.
  • U2: Percentage of labor force who lost jobs or completed temporary work.
  • U3: Official unemployment rate per the ILO definition occurs when people are without jobs and they have actively looked for work within the past four weeks.
  • U4: U3 + "discouraged workers", or those who have stopped looking for work because current economic conditions make them believe that no work is available for them.
  • U5: U4 + other "marginally attached workers", or "loosely attached workers", or those who "would like" and are able to work, but have not looked for work recently.
  • U6: U5 + Part-time workers who want to work full-time, but cannot due to economic reasons (underemployment)."
U-3 is the unemployment rate that is what the government and media tend to report. However, that "number" leaves out all those in U-4 through U-6.

And under Obama, a lot gave up and applied for disability, and they made it easier for them to get it. Pissed me off because not only did it make it harder on those of us that needed it, it also added question to be used against you later.
Do you own firearms.
Have you ever thought about killing yourself?

Those questions are still being asked, at the VA at least.
Veteran suicides are at record highs. The question about suicide is a legit question.
Firearms, not so much. If one wants to commit suicide they will take whatever measure required.
