I am considering one of these two guns as I am on a $600 budget.
Rock island tactical 1911 style or Glock 20

I already own 3 1911's and glocks 17,19,21 & 22
So its not a matter of which I would like best.
But more a matter of which would hold up the best.
I know Colt dropped the delta elite because of frame cracking.
But haven't heard anything on Glock 20's

Has anybody owned/shot both and have an opinion?
Heard anything bad about the G20?

I have been offered both locally under my budget. Thanks!

Uncle Ted sports his G20 all the time. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess (uneducated guess, but logic dictates) Glock is more than likely a better frearm than RIA...

The only input I would have here is that the G20 is a proven platform in 10mm. The RIA is appealing but to my knowledge it hasn't been available long and therefore there are some unknowns there.

I would add that if I had a RIA in 10 I would be inclined to not run many hot loads through it. They may have strengthened the frame for it but I'm not for certain and would want to study on it.

As someone who owns a Colt in 10mm, my advice would be to go with the Glock.

I love my 1911 Colt, and it was a hand me down from my dad, but you don't buy 10mm because you want a pretty gun, you buy it because functionally it's the best self defence round you can get. Like flatwins said, the Glock G20 has year of proven reliability, and until you mentioned it in this post I didn't even know RIA made a 10mm. Secondly you'll get more magazine capacity with the Glock, and that's something you should take advantage of while you can.

Another thread got me researching the 10mm. For more information, I would suggest reading the article on the link below. There is a lot of good information and history about this cartridge. I realize this won't help you select which firearm to get(Glock), but since you are interested in the 10mm, I thought you might like a good read.

FWIW, the first RIA 10mms that shipped were severely undersprung, easy fix though.
yeah, I read over on a 1911 forum to put 22lb recoil spring, extra power mainspring and firing pin spring and it should be go to go.

The RIA 1911 10mm was at Sooner Guns at 56th and mingo Tulsa.

Buy a glock 20 complete upper and some mags and let her rip on your G21 lower,

Safe yourself some cash for the ammo :pms2:

All joking aside, I have a 20SF and love it.
