The Speer Gold Dot .38 Special +P Short Barrel load has a good reputation. I chrono'd them out of my 442 when I had it and the velocity was spot on what Speer said they would be. For airweight snubbies I'd carry either short barrel load .38 or .357 with no reservations.

For full size steel guns it's any quality 125 grain JHP that will clock 1450 out of a 4" barrel. I've pretty much quit thinking about revolvers for SD due to capacity but if I go ever back this is my thinking.
