I also carry an XD 45 compact everyday. I am a heavy set feller and carry it in a K&D T-Bird holster and even with my manly frame you really can't tell it is on me.

im thinking about a ruger p345 but i would like some comments from the pro's, i know ist a big caliber so "compac" is hard but would like to know whats out there before i buy this one...

The P345 is roughly the same size as a 1911A1 Commander. Its thinner than its older sibling the P90. Carries 8+1, and is lighter than the Commander. You'll find the P345 to be a very accurate pistol.

The P345 is a neat relaible gun but doesn't have half the trigger on it. :D A commander definately has more potential for accuracy. I never took a caliper to one but I'd wager the slide is thinner on a Commander aswell. Also, a LWT commander comes in lighter than a P345.

All this talk about 1911's makes me want one.:scream:

I sold my last one a couple years ago and haven't had the urge.
But with some of these small versions I'm getting the itch.:naughty:

Only have one 1911 left and I don't carry it since I got my Glock 36, most excellent pistol IMMHO.

Really? I had a G36, but got rid of it after shooting a box of 235-gr FMJ through it. The recoil made me feel like someone was smacking my open palm with a 2x4 (lumber, not a vehicle!). I didn't care for that, especially when a Springfield 3" 1911 was much more pleasant to shoot.

IMHO :)
