If you have the funds, go and buy one or the other. Then buy some magazines and a case of good quality ammo. You may pay a little more than you would have paid last year, but now isn’t really a good time to wait for a great deal.
This is true. But it seems like people rarely buy when the prices are right and tend to buy when there’s some sort of real or imagined scarcity. My friends that aren’t firearms enthusiasts don’t come talk to me when ammo is plentiful and the ARs are cheap, they always show up late to the party and with a tight budget. 99% of them will never need a firearm nor will they take the time to understand the gun they bought, take a lick of training, or actually take time to practice any sort of shooting skill.
AKs are high, ARs are high. Get you an M1 or a Mini-14. I started shooting an AR earlier this year and my testosterone dropped by half.

Totally depends on the nature of the ban. If it includes confiscation or disposal all bets are off. Never say never.
