I'm old enough to remember when army surplus store were just that,,,
Stores that sold all kind of real military goods, new and used.

There was one near my home on the south side of OK City in the 60's,,,
He had barrels of mil-surp rifles and lots of mil-surp ammo,,,
I could pedal there and buy 8mm Ammo for my Mauser,,,
Five rounds at a time for a dollar bill.

Then off to the old dump,,,
To shoot some rats.

Yep... Distinct smell in a real surplus store. Like Sears stores from my childhood...they smelled like tires and cars and manly stuff no matter where in the store you were. I miss being able to go to Sears and get good tools and other stuff without having to look all over.

My memory was faulty,,,
It was $.10 per round for milsurp,,,
He did sell new ammo by the round for $.20 per round.

Smacking a few of those big old rats at the dump,,,
For a Okie kid that was like going on safari.
