A buddy of mine drew in for the hunt this weekend in Atoka. Any thoughts about the type of deer he will see and what to expect. Should he be patient or take the first horns he sees? Any help or comments are appreciated.
I would not be expecting "a buck of a lifetime" but they can produce some nice 8 and 10's down there in that area. The bad is they never seem to have any real mass to the antlers.
Opening weekend I saw a one good buck (8 or so points I'm guessing...thick, thick fog on sat morning and he caught me walking), a nice body small rack 8 point, and about 8 does. I had heard of a few bucks chasing that weekend as well. I would watch the does and see what follows them if it is this weekend. Should be at the beginning/peak of the rut down there I believe.
