Carbonated water doesn't do anything to the ground or grass, and is not explosive in nature. Carbon dioxide, being heavier than air will, so they say, suffocate the ants, the same way dry ice in airtight room will suffocate a person.

Edited to add: Snopes has an article about the carbon dioxide method--they say it ain't so. Just goes to show you what you read in the newspaper ain't always right.

If the water hose method is any indication, I'll need a buy a gas station to fill the tunnels.
Just kidding. How much gas did you pour down the holes? Did you do it to every mound? Did you cover and tamp down the mounds to seal the fumes in? Did it kill your grass?
You can see I desperate.

You talking the fire ants or the moles? Lol

I only had a couple of fire ant hills to kill. It didn't kill any more grass than the anthill killed and it all came back.
