Well, I mean I can read a piece or watch a documentary and still consider it good even if I disagree with the writer/producer. That is if it actually was good. I don't think Moore is good. I've watched docs with tiny budgets made by kids that are better than what he puts out.

I've watched several Moore docs, and all the ones I've watched I've watched at least twice. They bounce all over the place, have no consistency, and always have more of a political stump-speech feel to them than a documentary feel. What I mean by that is a good documentary will usually present information and raise questions in a way that is not patronizing to the viewer. The viewer shouldn't feel like he's being told to feel a certain way about something; he should feel like he is learning about something. Moore does that at times, but 5 minutes later you get to a part that sounds like letters to the editor of the local paper put into documentary format.

I was generous on the 40/60 split, tho.
I don't dissagree with what you said. folks that make documentaries, use lots of facts, and innunendo's to make their point. Editing makes it easier.

Michael Moore often brings some critical points to light. He exposes a lot of hypocrisy. However, he is sensationalist and melodramatic and that often diliutes his message.

On the Bowling for Columbine, his interview with an eldery Charlton Heston, who clearly had some early cognitive difficulties was slimy and unforgivable.

Most documentaries on political hot button issues, aren't.

Hopefully your daughter will focus on trashing Moore as a "Documenter" and leave the subject matter interpretation to her prof. If Prof is a typical liberal academian, he's probably using the controversial subject matter to push his own agenda. In other words:

This^^^ He gained access to Heston's house under false pretenses, then chased the old man around with a photo of a dead girl. Moore needed a serious kick in the nuts.

I've watched it 2 or 3 times over the years. It sheds light on a few interesting and valid points, but overall it's a pretty ****** documentary in my opinion. I always thought it contradicted itself in that it seems, at least to me, to assert there is no link between gun ownership and gun violence (the Canada part, etc.) while at the same time implying stricter gun control is a viable solution to a social problem and a culture of fear and violence in America.

Moore is the Nickleback of the documentary world. Take away the flash and the success, and you find there is no substance to warrant it. Most every Moore documentary is 40% topical, and 60% Moore jerking off via film making.

I can't improve on this assessment at all. The couple valid points he makes are completely ruined by his verbal diarrhea, and the fact that the guy is really fat AND wants me to pay for his healthcare also bothers me every time I see him. Essentially when I hear about Michael Moore preaching socialism, I see a single welfare mom with 10 kids crammed into in a fur suit wearing a black t-shirt begging for my money..

Glocktogo....that's my concern. I told my daughter to forego a lot of the 2A stuff and focus on Moore's style/sensationalism/contradictions, etc. it was extremely heartening though to hear her comments throughout the movie about what how poorly he linked Lockheed, rich white people, bullets, Kmart, KKK, NRA, Bush, etc....She was underwhelmed. :)
