From what I understand he gets $80,000 per year plus 2.4 million in Federal Tax Free $. He should get more, should be a million per year and 10 mil. for the bonus, TEXAS screwed up, anyone who thinks differently is a joke of a human being.

In cases of seriously mistaken criminal judgments, why shouldn't the police and district attorney be subject to serious review if not actually put on trial?

"Qualified Immunity"

Who oversees the justice system and holds the incompetent or malevolent police officer or district attorney accountable for their actions?

Depends on who you ask.

The civil and criminal court system.

However, our system places a lot of emphasis on good faith.

Generally it takes an act of malfeasance to bring such review in a criminal court but the burden is much less for civil court.

It is as it should be.

The bottom line is that someone will always be unsatisfied.

We don't want higher taxes but we want low paid public servants to make million dollar decisions and crucify them if they're wrong and wonder how it could have possibly happened.

You can't have it both ways.

Anyone who'd like to be part of the system and improve how it's done, they're always hiring.......

This is a similar case that was featured on 60 minutes a while back.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/03/06/60minutes/main4848039.shtml

Victim picks suspect out of lineup.
Suspect convicted and goes to prison.
Years later DNA proves that he is innocent.
Victim still believes he is the rapist, even sees his face during nightmares.
Not only does the DNA prove the suspect is innocent, it proves another man is the rapist who is already in prison and matches the evidence dna.
Victim just about breaks down with guilt.
Victim and released suspect become friends.

Personally, I'd like to see a review of all rape and murder cases where verdicts where:

Suspect has always maintained innocence.
Verdict was before dna testing was practical.
DNA evidence from the crime is available and viable for testing.

With all due respect wasn't it the court system that has created the problem?
And perhaps we should have more input and oversight from those who are not hired by or part of the system.

there found guilty once. If he didnt want to go to jail he should have never been wereever he was or associated with those kinds of people.

Come on 308 i will just assume you are having a bad day. And I pray to God that if you unfortunately have to use your weapon one day you wont be judged by like minded people as yourself.

This has rarely proven to work.

Look at the places that have citizen review boards: New Orleans, Houston, LA, etc.

The issue is that humans make mistakes.

Until we find some perfect humans, this stuff will sometimes happen.
