Now you know why the K22 is such a collectors item. Its amazing how sweet a trigger they put into that pistol.
Here is mine. 1928 K-22 masterpiece model.

is it OK to dry fire my Model 18?

hard to get a straight answer... loads of folks say ten's of thousands of strikes later... no problems. S&W says no dry fire on rim fire

have used two different colors, magic marker in attempt to see if firing pin touches anything. so far firing pin has not touched marked surfaces after repeatedly firing.

Good question. As a general rule I don't dry fire mine.

Correct answer is not to, .22lr ammo is cheap, just shoot it alot!! Also make sure you clean under the extractor star, 22's aeem to be the worst at collecting alot of fouling under it.

When I got my Model 18 last year I was in the same debate,,,
Here is what S&W told me over the phone.

Their rimfire revolvers all share one trait,,,
The firing pin will hit the cylinder when dry fired,,,
This will eventually dent the cylinder and/or flatten the firing pin.

I was told that if I absolutely had to practice with dry fire,,,
Load some spent casings into the cylinder and rotate them after 3-4 firings.

I decided to listen to the manufacturer.
