Unless they've changed it recently, which I don't think so, it's not legal, either. Not for carry.

I think the only state that allows anything larger than something in the .45 range is Alaska. Then again my understanding is the preferred carry weapon up there is the 500S&W.

I was gonna get one of those for a truck gun, until I realized I couldn't carry it loaded. :( Bummer.

You see a few people carry them but by far the most popular and carried handgun round in Alaska is the .44 magnum.
