My first car was the one I learned to drive with,,,
1968 Plymouth Road Runner,,,
Four on the Floor.

I worked three years to buy that car,,,
Mom and Dan said they would match any money I saved.

Pop told me many years later,,,
They thought I would maybe have a couple hundred dollars.

I had close to 2-Grand,,,
The car was $2,810.00 new/out the door.
Pop had to take a loan to come up with their part.

Imagine the lunacy of my parents though,,,
Turning a 16 year old kid loose with 365 HP of Pure Detroit Muscle.

.

Yeah, my kid just started driving and he's cracked a couple jokes about me loaning him my 370.

NOPE.

I think it was a 1971 international pu. no power steering, no power brakes and no hydraulic clutch cylinder. it was a workout in stop and go traffic. my leg would be trembling holding the clutch in waiting for the light to turn green.

Late 60's VW bus. After us kids learned to drive that, my dad drove it back and forth to work for a few years. The bus had well over 250,000 miles on it, smoked really bad and the crankcase required a new supply of oil on a daily basis by the time he traded it for a new 1984 Chevy pickup .
Really amazes me to see the money those old buses fetch these days. Nope, I have no desire to own one.
