Ok, I'm telling my age here, but back in the day at the 5 and dime stores like Kress, and TG&Y, and so on, you could go to the pet section, and buy a cayman. They cost about $12 or so if I remember. Some let them loose after they outgrew their habitat in the house.
In NC Ok the winters killed them, but there was one that survived to grow to a big length of 3' and got stuck in the drain pipe of a neighborhood. News paper reporters and all were there, but it was a big non-event.
