Do the electricians have to sub the gas/propane hookup I assume?
Some do and some don't and depends on your setup. my propane co is just down the street and 2 regulators/ valves and running like 20 feet of buried line adjacent to the house line along the base of house was like 450?
For warranty, the electrician has to activate the gen with the Company, if not for that, I'd have almost tried to do it in hindsight, didn't look all that hard or complicated, just a little specialist knowledge. Guess u should add, move was with an automatic transfer switch
I have been trying to learn a little about generators lately. What I have found is, you can buy duel, or even thi fuel portable generators, Gasoline, Natural gas or Propane, on Amazon, the best price I found. depending on what you want to run, the basic Westinghouse the one we bought, for $369.00 3600/4650 watt, gasoline only, Just to run the freezer, refrigerator, gas heater fan, or wood stove fan, and a few lights. We have a wood stove, and plenty of fire wood. The automatic transfer switch is just for convenience. you can get any electrician to install a 30/50 amp power inlet box, and breaker, depending on the size generator you need, to bring the power into your breaker box, mark, and turn off the stuff you don't have to have, manually, and turn off the main so the power don't go back down to line, and hurt someone working on the line, they will install a device that won't allow the main, and the generator inlet breaker, to be on at the same time for safety! Whole house generic type are great if you are willing to spend $15,000.00/$20,000.00, We will likely have less than $1,000.00 total including, the new generator, 30 amp extension cord, electrician, and parts.
Electricians install propane lines? Plumbers maybe, if in the city limits? That is why I don't live in the city limits!
That’s just about what we paid 3.5 years ago for the same setup although Cotton Electric made me put in a 400A ATS which isn’t 2Xs a 200A. I think that darn ATS was $800 on the chance someday they may bump my meter up to 400A. Turkeys!
What I’d like to have is a really good/quiet small portable. I want to say my father had a Husqvarna that you could barely hear.
Rural out where I am, some of the decent sized outfits have people that do all kinds of stuff rather than staying hyper specialized in their thing. But yes, I'm out where anything goes too.
I've been curious about some of these big heavy basically battery boxes. As good as batteries are for hand tools now, I bet one of those could be more convenient hauling out in your truck bed to do something in a field within reason. i don't have a portable power station but i do like the idea of being able to just swap out the batteries as needed. and the battery can be used in power tools also.
