Glad it turned out ok. I wouldnt fire a round until me or my aquaintance had been bitten. It would have been a red flag if you would have fired without any harm being inflicted on you or your wife. A firearm is an absolute last resort, its not to be used "just because you have a ccw" PD would probably frown upon shots fired in a residential area.
