HOMEMADE LAUNDRY SOAP

4 Cups Hot Tap Water
1 Bar Fels-Naptha Soap (look in both laundry AND bath soap aisle)
1 Cup Arm & Hammer “Super Washing Soda” * see NOTE
1 Cup Borax (in laundry aisle)

*NOTE: Arm & Hammer “Super Washing Soda” is in SOME stores (may be purchased at
Meijer.com ). Baking Soda WILL NOT WORK nor will regular Arm & Hammer
Detergent; it MUST contain Sodium Carbonate!!

1. Grate Naptha bar and put into saucepan with the water. Stir continually over medium heat until soap dissolves and is melted
2. Fill 5 gallon bucket (can get at Home Depot or Lowes for under $5.00) full of HOT tap water. Add melted soap, washing soda, and Borax. Stir well until all powder is dissolved. Fill bucket to top with more HOT water. Stir, cover and let sit overnight to thicken.
3. Stir mixture, then pour into a previously used (washed/cleaned) liquid laundry soap container. Fill container ½ full of shaken soap mixture and add the rest of container full of warm water. SHAKE before EACH use. This mixture will GEL after sitting so be sure and shake before each use.
4. (Optional): For fragrance, you can add 10-15 drops of essential herbal oil per 2 gallons once mixture has cooled to room temperature. Good scents include Lavender Oil, Tea Tree Oil, Jasmine Oil, Geranium Oil, etc).

YIELD: Total yield will be 10 gallons (after adding water each time you make a new batch in the container with ½ soap mix and ½ water).

Top Machine Loaders: Use 5/8 Cup per load (You will get 180 loads total)
Front Machine Loaders: Use ¼ Cup per load (You will get 630 loads total)

5. Works well in EITHER traditional OR HE machines
6. Clumping or Gelling of this liquid detergent is normal; just shake well before use.
