Be absolutely 100% positive that they are dead before getting close to a downed hog (or any other game animal for that matter) that you think is dead.

I always find my pig, sit back 10-15 feet away, and just watch them. Look at the blood, let my blood slow down, watch for breathing or blinking. Usually give it 5-10 minutes. Walk up, poke the eyeball with my barrel, if it’s ok, I’m good then. Honestly I do the same with everything but birds. Even squirrels.

In the last yt video I posted, the hog I finished off with my pistol was sitting up on its front legs and like chomping its mouth at me. It did that several times like it was wanting to try and bite me. Luckily I'm pretty sure I had shot it in the rear legs or spine and it couldn't get up to charge me. It kinda freaked me out for a second. lol
