Dennis has been working in the oil industry for 35 years beginning in 1975 when he joined Schlumberger. Schlumberger provided him with an intense upstream oil industry education in many garden spots around the world including the swamps of western Africa, the deserts of the Middle East and in several balmy Arctic locations. Dennis joined Conoco in 1983 in the Production Research and Development organization and worked on several production technologies including centralizing systems and created the first down hole shut in well testing tools. In 1996, Dennis relocated to Midland, Texas to work on coal seam gas production in Upstream Production supporting production in the San Juan business unit. He continued his work with the San Juan business unit when he moved to Houston in 1999 and supported production in the Drunkard's Wash Field and later moved in 2006 to Farmington, New Mexico.
Dennis is a co inventor on 39 U.S. patent applications and 51 international patent applications on subjects including centralizing, gas well clean up, well maintenance systems, double string pumping systems, gas lift pumping and cryogenic well stimulation.

He will be in Houston for a special awards presentation in October

Providing Regulatory Clarity and Protections against Known Risks

Although the national study should enhance our scientific knowledge, some concerns associated with overall natural gas and shale gas extraction, including hydraulic fracturing, are already well known. These operations can result in a number of potential impacts to the environment, including:

Stress on surface water and ground water supplies from the withdrawal of large volumes of water used in drilling and hydraulic fracturing;

Contamination of underground sources of drinking water and surface waters resulting from spills, faulty well construction, or by other means;

Adverse impacts from discharges into surface waters or from disposal into underground injection wells; and

Air pollution resulting from the release of volatile organic compounds, hazardous air pollutants, and greenhouse gases.
