Some of you are talking about freeze dried foods.
I don't believe the current .mill MRE's are freeze dried.
I believe their recent studies have driven the .mil away from freeze dried rations.

You're right, the general issue military "MREs" aren't freeze dried and haven't been for 20+ years (at least not the entrees, some of the fruit was).

We just mention them as a viable alternative to MREs when the availability and quality of MREs might be suspect. When it comes to weight, space, availability and quality there are far better choices out there.

I do keep some MREs handy as a layer...something to get through short term hardship and something to pack in a go-bag. But I would only buy military, in-date, MREs for that purpose. Otherwise, I'd pass on them altogether and buy something else.
