If you could only have one rifle which would it be a hunting rifle or AR style rifle?
First choice is the M1 Garand. Powerful, semi-automatic, historical, and way cool. Fresh, quality ammo is pretty cheap.

Second choice would be an M1 carbine with adjustable sights. Not as powerful as the Garand, but lighter and less recoil. Ammo is pretty cheap.

Bolt gun would be the Ruger Gunsite Scout in 308. Relatively light, full-power cartridge, with iron sights, scout scope mount, and regular scope mount.

22lr would probably be the Ruger 10/22.

Air rifle would be a Daisy 853 from the CMP.

I'm with @RickN on this one. There was a time when I could have only one rifle and one handgun. I chose a Mini-14GB and a stainless GP-100. I could scarcely afford those and didn't buy another gun for several years. That was 1988. The next gun I bought waited until 1994...it was a S&W 645. Two of them actually. After that they started coming along pretty fast and furious.
