That was my thought. Doesn't even look like her.

Supposedly the flowers in the painting are flowers that are native to Kansas (his mother's home state), Hawaii (his birth place), and Kenya (where his father was from.)

Sadly, at least the artist for Moochelle's painting was supposedly selected from a contest. That must mean that the other portrait artists were really sucky.

I might just have to take a trip to the Smithsonian to see the portraits of the other Presidents and their wives.

Follow-up edit:

Instead of a flower commemorating Kansas, it was the "city flower" of the city of Chicago.

In addition, there is some commentary on the fact that Moochelle's painting doesn't really look like her, and the guy that did Obama's portrait appears to have given him an extra finger (on the unusually large hands) and that his left side is nearly off of the chair.

They certainly appear to be stark differences from official portraits of past Presidents and First Ladies.
