The bottom line is that the world is very different now than it was in 1776. How long will we keep pretending it’s the same? The “arms” we are talking about are nothing like the “arms” the Founding Fathers were talking about.

As long as it is still legal for people with an intent to kill to obtain assault weapons and ammunition, all we can do as citizens is hope our town isn’t the next Aurora.

1. People are no different now than 1776. Evil then is evil now.

2. If technology makes a difference, then don't cite 'freedom of speech' to protect internet articles.

3. If laws can help discern who has 'intent to kill', then I'm all for it. Problem is they don't.

4. Why hope, when you can protect yourself?

I see what Mr. Sperry did there. He used the metaphor of "bears in class" for "bearing arms". Clever. But the metaphor doesn't really make sense. A gun, while dangerous in the wrong hands, is still an inanimate object. A bear, however, is dangerous all the time.
