My mother-in-law used to keep a .25 in the nightstand(I don't think that she even knew how to rack the slide) but I replaced it with a .38 for her.

I believe that most people, that do not shoot as often as they should, would be better served with a good quality revolver especially in a stressful situation. There is the matter of a break-in period with the pistols that most people probably do not perform and the reliability factor, ftf, fte etc. that comes with the responsibility of owning a pistol. That being said, I still believe that the pocket pistols are the most common.
