Was at the range yesterday. Driving out, a bull snake was crossing the two track road. Stretched almost completely across at one time. Measured the road by stepping it off. It was 6 1/2', probably 2 1/2" in diameter. Biggest I've ever seen. He got down into the rip rap rocks beside the road before I could get the phone out to take a pic. Beautiful snake, and like you said, he eats a lot of mice and rats when they are that big. Good snake.
I think mine is a rat snake, but I'm not sure. He's kinda pretty, and he is really big. I haven't measured him around, but in his middle he's a hand full. The last 2 times I've seen him, including this evening, I just looked out in the yard and there he was. He's that big. You can see him from a long way off. He's pretty feisty, and does, not, like being picked up. I haven't been bit yet, but I'm sure that streak is about to end. It certainty isn't because of a lack of effort on his part. Next time I catch him I'll snap a pic.
