I'm hoping you guys can help me. I've been searching online with no avail. I'm looking for an outdoor gun range. I grew up in Moore and have since moved out of state, but was hoping to come home around my dad's birthday and take him to the gun range as a surprise. I grew up around guns, but have never shot one and this has always baffled him. I've just never had the desire and would decline his requests. Birthday #32 has been bringing on a lot of things that I thought I'd never do and I know this would thrill him. We both love the outdoors and I'd prefer something more laid back which is why I'm looking for an outdoor range. So first, would there be any problem with me shooting when I'm a resident of another state (gun law clueless) and second, any good recommendations on where to take him? Obviously, I'm not specifically looking for something in Moore, but just around the area.

Make sure to call ahead of time.

Thanks for the recommendation! Will I have a problem shooting being from out of town? I'm not sure what is required when you go to a gun range. I'd ask my dad, but that would well...ruin the surprise!!

No problems as far as that goes. Ken is about the nicest guy you will ever meet. I love going out there, its like going to your grand dads farm to shoot.

You might check out Canadian Valley Gun Range also. Another call ahead before you go. Harry got hit by one of those tornadoes that blew threw here. I believe he has opened back up but you should call, just in case. I think he's always closed on Mondays anyway ... The number out there is (405) 262-9011.

Since you will be in Moore...a backup to Thunderbird would be the public range at Lexington, as long as he has a hunting/fishing license.

Go early on a weekday and you'll likely have the place to yourself...follow it up with hearty father/son breakfast at the AST diner on Highway 9 near the casino. That's a good morning right there!

We will have to settle for a nice father/daughter breakfast. :) I picture most indoor ranges being loud and rushed-like a busy bowling alley (outside of the one you mentioned). Is this a good assumption or should I be more open to indoor options too?
