I used nothing but a Rock Checker, for rifle and pistol.
I do have a MEC progressive for 12 ga skeet loads.
2 years ago, bought a Lee turret press. Month later, found a deal on a Dillon 550.
Set the Lee up for .45 ACP and haven't changed it.
The Dillon was set up for .357. Have heads, turrets and dies for .41mag, .44 mag and .45 Colt. Haven't changed anything.
I find I just use the Chucker. Old habits.

Get a Dillon 550. Buy once, cry once. I have a 550, 650, and 1100. All outstanding.
I'll agree, Ive got the 550 and 650
The Lee classic turret might be a good compromise. The auto index function speeds up pistol loading, but it is less expensive and complicated than a progressive.
Come to the shop and use my Hornady LNL AP so you can see if your ready for one.
Single stage sitting right next to it that only gets used for pulling bullets.
A progressive can be used just like a single stage.
