"Red Flag" Gun Removal in NY, signed into law

This is awesome, so those in power can now just "worry he might hurt someone" to remove arms from citizens. What's next? Red flag suspension of the 4th ammendment? Well I worry he has something in his house, so now we can just search it. In NY now, someone can just worry about you to a judge, and the cops will take all your weapons. This can be extended for up to a year.

What's to be done about this? Educate people to see what a slippery slope this is? Or just write them off as undeserving of the rights they so freely give away?

There are those that having firearms or other weapons raises very legitimate concerns. There should be a mechanism in place that protects both individuals and the community at large. The problem is in finding the proper balance.

If a proposal that meets both of these concerns is put forth, I'd take a look at it.

What could go wrong?

School kid tells parents he overheard two other kids talking about shooting up the school. Parents contact the school, they call police, red flag law comes into play.
Turns out the kids were planning on taking guns from one of their uncles, who had no idea what was going on, and kept his guns properly locked up.
So, uncle has his guns taken away.
Call me stupid, but how in the hell is that the answer to having a kid who wants to kill people? Take the guns away from the person he's going to steal them from?!!
