Had the same trouble with an entry level Stoeger O/U shotgun. Had it out early in the morning and it got a coat of dew on it. Somehow it ended back in it's case without getting much more than a rub down. Took it out and it was speckled with rust.

Took a few minutes with some 0000 steel wool and rem oil, and it's like brand new again.

The finish on the 870 Express is prone to rust. Just google the words "870 Express Rust". Best case scenario on a return: Remington recoats it with the same bad finish. Other than the finish they are hardworking field guns that will last you a long time. Your best bet will be to get an aftermarket finish put on it.

Being a newb to all this, I have a new 870 police magnum with the walnut furniture, what type of care does mine need? I understand these are parkerized?

they still need an oiling. The oil is less used to lubricate and more used to put a barrier between moisture and the finish. Even Remington recommends a light oiling on the exterior of their parkerized firearms.

I'm hoping that they put a better finish then factory so they won't have that same issue but you never know. I'll find out tomorrow what they did.

On thing is that washer on the butt stock on there correctly? I couldn't remember which way it went.

Pretty pleased with it. One thing I did seer hat I'm going to try is some one mentioned wiping it down every day for about a week with an oily rag in order to let the finish absorb oil.

Those two spots are from the tack welds on the inside. I was looking at a brand new 870 “in the store” that had them in the same spots.
