You could always build an ugly drum.

Don't know what that is, but a guy that used to cook on the BBQ circuit used two 55 gallon drums with a tube between them. The drums appeared to have been rolled down a rocky mountain and were supported by tposts and wire, totally ugly, but danged if the guy didn't win the overall. Wood in one, food in the other. I'm sure it wasn't an accident. He had lots of sauces and spice rubs for sale.

Yeah, but this can be built for $50, $100 tops. The Brinkmann version goes for a few hundred, and isn't as big.

One advantage of the UDS is that they're very good for turkeys and other large hunks of meat, having both the height and diameter to hold them. Also good for hanging sausage.

My dad had a 55 gallon drum that had the lid cut out with a saber saw, some hinges on the back, and some rebar legs welded on that I grew up with. Grates were expanded steel. He cooked a lot of chicken quarters on that grill. Probably classify as an ugly grill.

If it wasn't for the price I'd have a bigger Yoder, maybe next time. I bought the GMG DB and love it, wifi is a nice feature, the SS lid is just cosmetic. These things aren't just a smoker, use it as a grill, or even an oven too, meats, pizza, bread, cookies, veggies, jerky, desserts etc. This grill gets to 500, and I use grill grates for the perfect sear and/or grill marks. Pellet grills have a small learning curve but are awesome for cooking, it can't get easier to maintain consistent heat and not overpowering on smoke. On long cooks you can set it up and go into town or whatever for several hours without having to babysit. I often run errands or do yard work while the grill is cooking.

Three accessories I think are a must, for any smoker/grill.
