You agree to have them installed, they save you electricity, and PSO gives you a break on your bill. Not that big of a deal.

Oh I agree, I am not asserting it's a big deal or invasion of privacy. Just pointing out that some people are already voluntarily ceding some control of their usage and appliances to the power provider. I'm not one, but then I'm pretty conservative with my thermostat (My wife on the other hand...).

The other idea I've heard is for homeowners to use home automation networks to choose appliances to shut off during hours of peak draw, but that's under their control and not the power company's. Since with this new metering system the power companies will be able to bill you more/less depending on the time of day, there will be a major financial incentive to shut stuff off during peak hours.

Let me ask you something. Are you from the power company?

Question, if this guy is such a nut how did this come to pass?
Last year I purchased a GE sxs fridge at an estate sale for cash.
nobody knew me, I paid cash.
Today I got a postcard from Sears addressed to me directly.
It listed the make and model number of the fridge and told me that it was time
to change the water filter. coincidentally the light that tells you need to change it came on 2 weeks ago.

scary huh?

This statement is not correct. Each city in Ok gets to vote on their provider. Its every 10 years.

You are correct - I misspoke there. But I still cannot go out and shop companies, which is more to my point.

Though I've never had a big beef with any power companies, gas or electric, to date.
