OKLAHOMA CITY A former Oklahoma legislator says his kill of a piebald deer, which he touted to his local newspaper, was illegal, and he has paid a $296 fine.
Former Rep. Terry Harrison, D-McAlester, told the Tulsa World on Monday that he killed the piebald deer with large white spots on its hide, in unusual places on his land shortly after Thanksgiving. He said he was pleased with the kill, took the slain deer to a taxidermist and called his local newspaper, which published a picture.
He said he then got a call from a game-ranger friend who said state regulations require advance permission from the state Department of Wildlife Conservation before a piebald deer can be killed. Harrison said he asked another ranger to write him a ticket.
