String trimmers (time again)

It is that time of year and I tried to search here and other places for the best lawn string trimmers. I always have used electric Weedeater trimmers. They all seem so cheaply made anymore. Plastic gears,etc. I had a Craftsman that was used only two seasons that quit working. i know you get what you pay for also.


What brands are the best in gas or electric? Thanks guys and gals.

I have a Husqvarna that I'm pretty happy with. I also bought a brush cutter attachment that I have used to cut quite a bit of underbrush with it.

I'm tired of screwing around with cheap trimmers as well. Waiting for my current Troybilt to die (again) so I can replace it with one that'll last a while. I'm a Stihl chainsaw fan but my local small engine repair guy swears by the Robin brand trimmers. He says they're simple, powerful and repairable. And cheaper than the Stihl.

Whatever I get, it has to be able to cut Johnson grass stems.

I'm torn.

Don't mess around with electric. Gas and get either Stihl or Echo. Period.

For my yard a battery powered B&D grasshog does fine. No noise, no exhaust.

I am done dealing with extension cord tangles and everything else for electric. I may read some more reviews for the battery powered ones(my yard isn't very big at all), or I may just go gas this year.
