Currently I have a Glock 19 that I carry with a Crossbread holster that was recommended on OSA (thanks for that one guys), but would like to get a different caliber for a backup gun in case I run out of ammo. Looking at a 45 but have not shot one in years. I understand that 1911's are hit and miss on getting one that will not have to be worked over, not to say that is bad I just don't want to go there. Thinking on around 600 to 800. Since I have a carry gun thinking on making this one a fighting gun that is accurate, has good capacity, full size, and dependable.

You want a full size .45 for a back-up gun?

Get a aftermarket barrel with standard rifling, then shoot lead through your G19.

If you really want another gun, like suggested stick with a similar gun. Get a G17 or G34 and add the aftermarket barrel for lead capability.

HK makes a "combat" USP (this one is a .40, but you get the idea):

Sig makes both the P229 and P226 in a "combat" flavor as well as a Blackwater Tactical flavor (same for the P220 in .45):

So help me, I will own a USP Custom Combat (FDE) in 9mm some day.

If you're wanting a back up gun get another glock so you don't have to learn a new trigger or controls. Everything will be the same except the length and recoil. Less learning curve. Get an aftermarket barrel and shoot all the lead you want.
